Red Frogs Revisited

I am a dad.  Both of my kids mean the world to me.  I’ve driven all night just to be present just to coach a soccer game.  I’d do anything to show my kids my love and God’s love for them.  Living in Vegas causes me to reflect on this often; mostly because of what we do in our attempt to communicate God’s love in practical ways.   I see hurting people everywhere.  I see young girls working as prostitutes and strippers.  At times, I've wondered what went wrong with their journey.  I've wondered how they got in this predicament.

Some of the overt sexuality that is expressed in Vegas reminds me of being in Australia last year.  My family and I traveled to work with the Red Frogs.  In fact, that week long teen party, was being impacted by some great youth pastors who were trying to run a recovery operation in what felt to be the waiting room to hell.  The debauchery, the gluttony, the excess…I still can’t figure out what the attraction is to such short-term pleasure.  Having pondered it, I think it is an internal desire to be accepted.

Girls give it up to find acceptance and affirmation.  Guys seek to get it to feel accomplished.  It hurts to think about what happens to these people.  Their decisions take them to far and cost them to much.

When you get your copy of the book, read the gluttony chapter slow.  Take it in and put yourself in my shoes.

Would you have done what I did?

Would you have invested time, energy, effort in what seemed to be a place of overwhelming odds?

Look beyond a bracelet and ask where would God have been in the middle of it?

Even today, I am pained.

Until I get back,

Craig
